Studio & Market Journal

A behind-the-scenes look at life at Violet’s Print House — from market weekends and upcoming events to studio moments, print production, and the creative process behind each collection.

The Story Behind My Mediterranean Building Paintings

Over the past few weeks I've been revisiting a series of Mediterranean building sketches that I originally created over a year ago. These illustrations are part of an ongoing collection inspired by the colourful streets, charming architecture and sunshine-filled memories of Mediterranean holidays.

Using acrylic paints, I've been bringing these sketches to life with bright, cheerful colours that reflect the warmth and character of the places that inspired them. I love how Mediterranean towns are often filled with vibrant facades, painted shutters and unexpected colour combinations, making them such a joy to paint.

One of my favourite parts of the creative process is seeing an initial sketch gradually transform into a finished artwork. The images below offer a glimpse behind the scenes in the studio, from paintbrush and palette to completed prints ready to be shared.

I hope these pieces evoke a sense of sunshine, travel and happy holiday memories, bringing a little Mediterranean charm into the home.

We had a lovely time with Open Art Spaces for their first Art Market at Coal Drops Yard! Unfortunately we had to pullout of Saturday due to poor weather conditions and becuase our stock would have got damaged, but the organisers were very understanding and were very welcoming on Sunday! Can't wait to join them for another market soon!
